The “monograph
on tablets” in Ph. Eur. stipulates that the fragments of scored
tablets must comply with either the mass uniformity test or the
content uniformity test.
Breakability tests on tablets with “conventional”
scoring frequently show that the tablet unintentionally breaks beside
the score; the probable cause of this is that the substance is more
compacted along the score line, causing higher resistance to breakage.
Divisibility can be improved by changing the design
of the score. The “debossed lancet-shaped” score proved
to be effective (example c), as did
adding extra “band scores” (example
d).
The following overview
depicts some of the possible score designs.
We can draft tablet drawings incorporating your
ideas for score designs, which we then place at your disposal; we
would also be delighted to advise you..
